I lucked out and found a great deal on some plane tickets to MT, so Madeline and I made a quick trip over the weekend to visit her grandparents and meet her Unckee-T and Auntie Meg. We had a great trip and Madeline did really well on the plane. I think she truly earned her wings, as she got to deal with maintenance issues, flight delays, missed connections and rebooking into another airport all on her first flight! Despite all this we arrived only ~5 hrs late into MT and she was quite the trooper. Madeline had lots of fun playing with Grandma and Grandpa. We met Travis and Megan in Helena for breakfast on Saturday and then got the grand tour of the new home they are building--looks amazing and they should be ready to move in soon! Madeline is now jealous and begging for a new home ;) Trav and Megan came over on Sunday and Madeline had some fun playtime with her aunt and uncle. She gave everyone plenty of smiles and coos. We got back to Houston on Monday evening after a long flight home. Daddy was sure happy to see his little girl and thought she had grown during her 4 days away--must have been that clean mountain air!
Bags are packed and we're at the airport ready to go. Getting there on time sure makes a girl tired!

New playmate...
Madeline discovered the baby in the mirror last night and has spent lots of time cooing, smiling and sticking her tongue out at her new friend. We think its super fun to watch and hope you do, too!

Rainy Tuesday
Madeline and I were planning on just playing at home today, but after we woke up to lots and lots of rain this morning I decided we needed to get out of the house. There is a place in town that offers Mommy & Baby Yoga and your first class is free, so we decided to give that a shot. I think I need to take a Yoga class about once every 2 years or so to remind myself that I really don't think yoga is for me. Anyways, it was good to get out, stretch a bit and do something different. The last portion of the class involves moving and incorporating the baby into your stretching and the grand finale...a baby massage. I guess Madeline has yet to discover the value of a massage because right as we got to this portion of the class she decided she had had enough and started to breakdown. She really needs to learn that you never turn down the opportunity for a massage! :)
In other news, she is now a 9 pounder--she was up to 9lb 3oz this morning. And get this, she slept from 9pm until 7am this morning....yep, that's right 10 whole hours. I'm really proud of her and soooo happy that it appears we have a good sleeper on our hands!

Two month milestones
She's two months old today.
Here is a picture of her at 2 months
and one of her acting goofy for the camera:
This has been quite an eventful month. Here's a list of some of her developments:
I can smile:
And, since I have the cutest smile ever, here's a video (you'll have to excuse mom's silly commentary!)
I'm also working on perfecting the art of pouting to get what I want:
I went on my first road trip:
I can sleep through the night (I've done it about 8 times!) and I now sleep in my big-girl crib rather than the bassinet in mom & dad's room:
I love playtime,
and I can roll from my tummy to my back (mom & dad have been unsuccessful at capturing this one on video!)
I think mobiles are the greatest invention ever:
I'm sure there are plenty more of great things to come as I move into my 3rd month of life! Stay tuned...

2 month check-up
Madeline had her 2 month check-up today and the Dr said she is doing great! Her weight is right on track at 8lb 11oz and she is now 23in long! Unfortunately, the 2 month check-up also means a round of shots. This is what Madeline thought about that:
After the initial round of tears, she settled down and managed to sleep the whole way home. Once we got home she was very happy and full of smiles, so it made me feel much better about the whole shot ordeal! Here's a happy smile for you:
While she was down on the ground playing and having her tummy time, she rolled over onto her back. I thought it was a fluke, so I put her back on her stomach. She rolled over again! I guess its official-she can now roll over from her tummy to her back!
After such an event filled day, she's currently sleeping like a log!

New toy
I've caved already... We weren't planning on getting a playmat for Madeline. I figured we could just lay her on blankets and provide her with toys and she would be happy (which, I'm sure she would have been). But, after talking to some other new moms about how much their little ones love the playmats, and after seeing how Madeline is so taken by her mobile, I ordered one from Amazon. It came this week, and Madeline loves it. She stared at the monkey for quite some time yesterday, and today she was smiling at the giraffe.
Check it out:
In other news, I weighed her yesterday and she's 8lb 11 oz. She seems a lot longer, too, so we're excited to see her official stats at her Dr appt on Monday.

"Whine" Country Weekend
Well, Madeline's first big road trip was a success! She was a great traveler and slept during most of the car ride. We tried out the new wrap carrier that I got right before we left and Madeline spent most of the weekend riding around in that. She loved it, enjoyed looking around and often fell asleep for long stretches. So, all in all, we were able to enjoy our wine rather than whine. Here's the recap:
The first night we drove to San Antonio and were able to enjoy the Riverwalk and some decent Mexican food before heading up to the Texas Hill Country.
View from our hotel balcony in San Antonio
"Look Madeline, it's the Alamo" (she wasn't too impressed!)
She enjoyed the Mariachi music at dinner.
The next morning we briefly walked the Riverwalk before getting back in the car for the drive to Fredricksburg.
On Saturday afternoon, we decided to hit 3 of the wineries near Fredricksburg that we had never visited. Many of these were celebrating Labor Day by having a grape stomp, live music and munchies, so we were excited. The first was Chisholm Trail Winery (www.chisholmtrailwinery.com) which was going for the Texas ranch feel. We enjoyed "The Roundup" tasting flight of their premium red wines and both really enjoyed the Diablo, which we found bold and spicy. The band was just getting set up, and we decided not to stick around to hear them. We did check out the grape stomp and were a bit disappointed to find a kiddie wading pool filled with grapes to stomp. Oh well, the wines were good!
Next, we were off to Pedernales Cellars (www.pedernalescellars.com). They too, were having a grape stomp weekend and were pretty busy, which made it difficult to cozy up to the bar for some tastings. We made a pretty quick stop here, tasted the wines and were on our way in search of somewhere a bit more relaxing. We found it at Woodrose Winery (www.woodrosewinery.com) where they do their tastings in a unique fashion by bringing the wine to you. So, instead of trying to find a place at a crowded bar, we found a nice table on the patio, ordered a cheese plate and had a nice relaxing time while our server brought around their wines. There was a band playing which made for the perfect end to our afternoon.
Brian liked the red, Madeline preferred the white...

On Sunday we enjoyed a leisurely morning of looking at the shops in Fredricksburg...as Brian says, lots of crosses and angels. In the afternoon we revisited two of our favorite wineries from past trips. Becker Vineyards (www.beckervineyards.com), in our opinions, must be one of the more successful Texas wineries. They have a beautiful estate, great wines and always seem pretty busy. With this weekend being a holiday weekend, the winery was a zoo! We were able to taste nearly all of their wines (we found it helps to be extra friendly to those doing the pouring!) and were able to take a quick tour. They too, were having a grape stomp and people were lined up to stomp grapes in the oak barrels and then "stamp" their footprints on a T-shirt.

We finished off at Torre di Pietra Vineyards (www.texashillcountrywine.com) which has a great patio area and always seems to have a band playing. We tasted their wines, grabbed a glass of our favorites, and finished the afternoon relaxing on the patio.

We stayed at a B&B in Fredricksburg which was two blocks off of the main street-great location for walking in to enjoy dinner.
All clean, sweet and ready for bed....
Bed! But wait, I want to go back to more wineries!!
On Monday, we made a brief stop at the Wildseed Farms, hoping to get a few cute shots of Madeline and flowers. As you can see, she wasn't too fond of that idea!
We can't really blame her, she was a great sport all weekend, and we had a fun time on our first roadtrip! Here's hoping for many more!!

quick update
Yay for Madeline! She slept thru the night last night!! She went down at 11pm and didn't make a peep until 7am this morning. We're still working on shifting her to an earlier bedtime, but if she continues to sleep thru the night (I'm trying not to get my hopes up!), I'd be fine with the 11pm bedtime.
With a full night of sleep under our belts, we're all feeling super rested and ready for our trip. Just a few more things to load and hopfully we can be out of the house and on our way to pick up Brian from work in about an hour. Texas Hill Country...here we come!
Have a great weekend!

6 week happenings
I've been meaning to post all week, and here it is, late Thur evening, and I'm just now getting around to it. It has been a whirlwind week. Here are some updates:
We started Madeline on some meds for acid reflux this week and she seems to be doing much better. Hopefully the screaming, back arching and pain are things of the past for her. I hate seeing her like that!
She has discovered things above her. The mobile and ceiling fan are currently very captivating!
She weighed 8lbs 6 oz today, and we know she's growing because some of her onsies are getting tough to get over her head.
We're taking our first road trip this weekend! We're excited for our "Whine" country weekend, so be sure to check back next week for rundown of Madeline's first adventure!
For now, here are some funny facial expressions from this week:
And now for the grand finale.....................................!!!!!
