Happy Birthday Little One!!

This little doll turned 1 today.  I can't believe how fast she has grown!

Madeline was very concerned about her party so we made sure to celebrate even though there will be more festivities on Sat. She got to eat her first cupcake.

I can't believe she left the party hat on the whole time.  I guess a cupcake is a great distraction!

Yummy!

I think I might be able to fit this whole thing in my mouth

All done

After a quick bath, it was on to presents.

Cool...check this out!

Lots of help from big sister

Our child is the biter...

When Madeline was in the infant and 1-year old class it seemed like we were constantly signing incident reports because she had been biten by another child.  This time around, the tables have turned and we have the biter.

Enter exhibit A...

Olivia has 7 teeth, with another on the way and she isn't afraid to use them! Be careful when you hold her, as she jst may try to take a nibble on your shoulder!

In other news, we have been doing baby sign with her (when we remember) and yesterday she signed back 'more' for the first time.

Can't believe she'll be one in just a few days...

Happy Father's Day

Daddy and his girls
We had a great Father's Day.  We started the day off with brunch at the Torrey Pines Lodge--it was a big hit with everyone.

We then ventured out to the San Diego fair where Madeline had a great time enjoying the rides and I had a great time enjoying her smiles.  Brian joined her on some of the rides, but we were amazed at how fearless she is...how did she get to be so big?  Olivia was feeling a bit tired and just enjoyed being in the Ergo carrier for a good snooze.

Drivin' in my truck now....

We saw lots of sheep...Madeline said she wanted to pet every one.  We didn't quite pet them all, but she tried!

Look who's wearing shades.  (This lasted all of 30 seconds!)
Stopping for some lemonade!

Olivia woke up in time to show us some of her tricks.  I don't know what she was doing, but she kept kicking her leg in the air like this and looking back at me.  Silly girl!
Daddy and Madeline trying out their roping skills

"Wait, just who do they think they are going to rope?"
Evidence of a really fun day!
We're so lucky to get to celebrate some great dads today, so Happy Father's Day to all the wonderful dads out there.  Thanks for all you do for your kids, both little and grown.

A bit of weekend fun

We've been trying to explore our new city and all it has to offer.  I had noticed a spring kick-off party advertised at one of the community centers, so on Sat we headed over to try it out.  It was a great way to spend the afternoon with all sorts of fun activities for Madeline.  Olivia enjoyed watching all the big kids at play.

Taking her turn at the gymnastics demo.  She tried this a number of times and had a blast!

Someone was super excited that we finally found a park with baby swings!

Madeline exhibited no hesitation in joining the 4-7 year olds in the jumping castle and climb to the top of the slide all by herself.  When did she get so big!!
On a side note, one of Olivia's teachers at daycare loves to do hair. Look who can wear pigtails now!!

Guess what happens when mommy tries to do dishes...

Yep, this girl puts everything in her mouth!  So much for that yellow crayon!

Our Memorial Day Weekend

This post is extremely late...we've been busy and time just keep slipping away.  I did, however, want to share pictures from our busy Memorial Day weekend.  We had a lot of fun with multiple friends in town.

Saturday brought a trip to the San Diego Zoo for the first time.  What a huge zoo!  We made it through probably less than a 1/4 of the exhibits.  We bought an annual pass, so luckily we can go back for more.
Silly faces pose

On Sunday we checked out the La Jolla Aquarium.  Madeline enjoyed playing with the outside water tables and boats and making up games about kitchens and cookies more than she enjoyed looking at the fish, but I guess that's what being a kid is all about.

Madeline and Rowan having a great time together.  The button on this display also activated the oven where the cookies were baking.--love the little imaginations at work!
Silly faces while playing at the aquarium-maybe she's just excited that the cookies are finished!
On Mon we had our first beach adventure.  Th girls had a great time playing in the sand.  Madeline braved the water with daddy, but it was a bit to cold for her this time.  She enjoyed digging in the sand and building sand castles.  Olivia had a great time trying to taste everything on the beach.  She was COVERED in sand by the time we left!
Tasting the sand

Mmmm, tasty beach rock
What do you mean I can't eat the sand?  Why would you take it from my mouth?

Happy as a clam in the sand

Madeline's new favorite game....races in the park.  She's fast, she usually wins! :)
